Even the truth hurts

If you withhold the truth (good or bad), you’re not doing them any favors. -Hurricane

Sometimes what may seem as the hardest thing to do in this world is “telling the truth.” Such a simple task can cause pure Fear . Eventhough you think the truth may hurt someone’s feeling , don’t be scared or consider yourself the ultimate authority on how they will respond. Usually in any given dramatic situation, my rule of thumb is the longer you take to reveal the truth- the longer the road to recovery grows for the recipient..

At this point, I expect some people to confess that it’s easier said than done. Well, I would ask you one question - how would you want to be treated? Would you want your closest friends and family lying and sneaking behind your back to keep some hidden facts from you? Isn’t it withholding the truth, the same as deception. Perhaps, its deception of another’s heart.

Truth Hurts

When the truth hurts about the time

To say goodbye

simple

Reasons make things so complicated

for a diamond lost

in splinters crushed

a thousand times

So that’s why I didn’t

Hear what you say

These bloodshot eyes

Rained memories on a black and white photo

Next to my shadow steps

Talking about the good things

Blind men endure and

We closed doors on.

Never regret the bad intentions

Slicing crying hearts to

Disasters more pleasurable

Than a sexy Monday.

Hellos behave sensible under

Fluorescent lights decending to a cringing collection of

Psychic meetings in the bathroom;

Conference room of self apologizing

Mirrors made to protect

A fragile dignity

Faced to the face bowl

with what fate

Mixes a confused mind

In private

I heard a story from a friend that’s much too common in the dating world. She mentioned that a gentleman showed interests in her but she was not attracted to him. She gave him signs or hints that she was not interested. He ignored all the hints, but she didn’t take the next step. Tell him the truth! (Tell him verbally how she felt) It seems easy right, but she ignored his calls and hoped he would get the drift because she wanted to spare his feelings. She waited for months before spilling the beans.

Apparently, woman and men alike think people interested in them have special powers and mind reading abilities.

Face the truth
In the face of truth
principles rain purple foresight
while eyes shut daily
and open unaware
Allocated on underlying
risks masked in the trillions of sweets,
wasted in the clear lights
of an unjustified
claim
In the face of true
Lies, open mouths peel a fresh
slate of denials when
the lightening strikes
twice
Compared to the face of a thief
caught in the act and the
plan painted in plans
built with care and
covered in reality

Joy and Pain, It’s Christmas Time again

Joy and Pain, It’s Christmas Time again
Lord, please have mercy upon your children.

If I was to leave this world today, would anyone notice or would anyone care. I sit in a dark lonely room covered with blame. Where is my family? All of my friends are asleep.

If I was to leave this world today, I don’t think anyone would miss me because they don’t understand what I go through this time of the year.  My strong outer appearance and the images I project are hiding what’s really cooking inside my spirit.

Every Christmas song and holiday melody sounds like funeral bells. Based on my rearing and religious beliefs, these moments are suppose to be good cheers and blessing, but there are not.  This dark lonely and bitter room has many residents from all walks of life and generations.  We share the cold grim holiday cheer and a steaming cup of apple cider.
As I walk home in my mind, there is no room for romance and love. My chairs creek with envy and my tables reek of dead rose pedals.
Every winter, a choice and the same decrepit voice slithers into my bed. As I awake to enjoy another day, the pain keeps watching for a weak spot. The quiet is testing my thoughts. It’s just a matter of time before my nights are permanent. I want to leave, but the cold winds are too fast.

If I was to leave this world today, where would I go? My life has no peace. What I used to call home has no welcome mat. It’s getting colder in my room with just one coat and one shoe. As I walk though the alleyway behind the hospital, sirens scream my name in blood and jingle bells tease my existence.

Cursed people prance on fire around a Christmas tree. It’s there Joy and my Pain. All the gifts and champagne would have been mine if I didn’t have to run away. If I didn’t have so much money and greedy fingers, I’d feel the most joyful time of the year.
It’s those dang bells. Stop them from ringing! Please stop singing! Lord, please have mercy upon your children. We’ve lost our sanctified meaning.

** The piece was written to respect and honor the souls who do not feel the same joy around the holiday season.  If you look around, one out of five people may contemplate suicide.   “Most popular press articles suggest a link between the winter holidays and suicides (Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania 2003). However, this claim is just a myth. In fact, suicide rates in the United States are lowest in the winter and highest in the spring (CDC 1985, McCleary et al. 1991, Warren et al. 1983).” (quoted from DCD website - http://www.cdc.gov/ncipc/factsheets/suifacts.htm) My advice is to pay attention to the warning signs and embrace your neighbor, family, and friends with love.

Amidst the dark corners in the library study, a senior student studies the correlations of the biblical text to demonic possession. The lights are turned off.  Rays of the evening sun pierce through the cracks in the stacks of old weathered newspapers and books. He ruffles the pages. Dust flickers in a cyclone motion and settles gently on the desk. As he reads the charcoal stained pages of the Winster’s Chronicle, his cigarette slowly burns into the filter in this ever so quiet moment. There’s no noise from the wind or any form of life. Only the tearing sound from the turn of each page ripples the words to existence. In a snap, he quickly looked over at the stack of books. He thought he saw a roach crawling over his hand. After checking under the table, he found nothing but the shadows of the table legs.

“She had no idea about the twenty five killings in this house.  There was an old folktale about the Winster mansion; Folk say the walls are covered in blood at the strike of 3:20 AM. About 20 years ago, a family from 10 German generations lived in this home.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
“Make paper, talk later,” is a favorite quote by creative new talent, Melvin L. Williams, but after founding his own business, a book scheduled for release later this year, and a future plan involving a whole new series, maybe that quote should read, “Make way, here comes Melvin Williams!”
Fairfax, Virginia, March 18, 2006 - Distinguished and well-versed businessman and poet, Melvin L. Williams is a dynamic thinker. Always exploring for a new path of life, Melvin has a unique talent to rise above things and see the bigger detail.

You never know, you just may see Williams walking in the park, bicycling, listening to music, or being a volunteer at local functions.  But with a love of writing, he is usually with pen in hand and skillfully speaking his thoughts. Williams has written numerous short stories, plays, and poetry with an interest in motivational poetry for friends and family or personalized poetry for special occasions. His expertise?  Writing genuinely from the heart.

Knowing what he wanted to make of his life, Williams has accomplished those goals and is paving the way for the next path of life with his new book just on the horizon. William chuckles, “writing has become my adult psychotherapy for today’s caffeine-enriched society for happiness and success.”

His book, to be released later this year, is different because it combines all of his poetic talents along with his life story from a chronological approach and the perspectives of my friends to make it truly intriguing and provocative. It also highlights the life challenges of a man’s survival from rural suburbia living to high-paced metropolitan are while serving in the military.

It is no doubt Williams is reaching such amazing heights with his words and books, he is outright enthusiastic about life and is dedicated in being an imaginative and insightful. If you would like further information about Melvin Williams, you can reach him at author@melvinlwilliams.com.
